East London Man and Canadian Arrested in Terror Probe
Anjem Choudary, 56, from East London, was charged on Sunday, 23 July, with multiple terrorism offences under the Terrorism Act 2000. The charges include membership of a proscribed organisation, addressing meetings to encourage support, and directing a terrorist organisation.
Canadian National Also Charged
Khaled Hussein, 28, a Canadian national, faces charges of membership of a proscribed organisation. He was arrested after arriving at Heathrow Airport on Monday, 17 July, alongside Choudary, who was detained in East London.
Met Police Clamp Down
- Both men were held under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
- Detectives secured warrants to detain them until Monday, 24 July.
- They have been remanded in custody and are due in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 24 July.
The arrests come as part of an ongoing Met counter-terrorism investigation targeting alleged membership and support of banned terrorist groups.
