The family of Ann Scott, a cherished teacher in St Leonards, have paid a moving tribute to her following her tragic death. Ann, 57, was found dead at a Hollington Old Lane home on January 11 last year after concerns for her welfare.

A post-mortem revealed Ann died from catastrophic head injuries. She was celebrated for her dedication to teaching children with special educational needs and had a positive impact on countless students.
Son Arrested and Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter
The investigation took a dark turn when her son, Joseph Scott, 18, who also lived at the Hollington Old Lane address, was arrested at the scene. Joseph was charged with his mother’s murder.
At Lewes Crown Court on December 18, Joseph pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility. The court accepted his plea, recognising the complex mental health factors involved.
Hospital Order Issued as Family Calls for Awareness
On February 22, Joseph was sentenced to a hospital order with restrictions at Lewes Crown Court, bringing the case to a solemn close.
“Ann was a popular and inspirational teacher dedicated to her pupils with special educational needs,” the family said. “She was equally devoted to advocating for her son, who faced complex challenges. Our suffering shines a light on the struggles families endure trying to keep loved ones facing mental health crises safe.”
