Fake Taxi Driver Jailed for Raping Woman in Her Own Home
Bogus cabbie tricks victim, then attacks
A sham taxi driver from Gravesend has been locked up for nine years after raping a woman he lured into his car. Idris Ibra preyed on the victim as she made her way home after a night out in maidstone/" title="Maidstone" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Maidstone.
On 28 July 2019, the woman booked a taxi from Maidstone town centre. While waiting, Ibra appeared and convinced her he was the driver. He took her home—then followed her inside and carried out the brutal attack.
Quick police action leads to arrest
The victim immediately called the police, but in her confusion, she mistakenly blamed the genuine taxi driver she had booked. Swift investigation revealed the attacker was someone else.
CCTV showed a car leaving Maidstone with the victim inside. Police traced the vehicle to Ibra, who was arrested the next day.
Lies unravelled in court
During questioning, Ibra lied about being in a relationship with the woman—he couldn’t even name her—and claimed blackmail. Detectives exposed these falsehoods, proving the victim was a random target, unknown to Ibra.
The 20-year-old from Perry Street, Gravesend pleaded guilty at Woolwich Crown Court. Judge Philip Shorrock branded him a “dangerous offender,” sentencing him to nine years. Ibra must serve at least six years before parole, plus three years on extended licence. He’s been added to the sex offenders’ register for life.
Police praise victim’s bravery
“Ibra deceived the victim by pretending to be her taxi driver, then committed a horrific assault,” said Detective Sergeant Alastair Worton. “He lied to discredit her and avoid blame, but our evidence forced his confession.”
