Officers Face Criminal Charges Following IOPC Probe
Two serving Metropolitan Police officers are now facing criminal charges after a probe by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
Details of Charges Revealed
- PC Jack Wood, from the East Area Command Unit, has been charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm under Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, plus Common Assault under Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
- PC Archie Payne, also from the East Area Command Unit, has been charged with Common Assault under Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.
Next Steps and Court Date
Both officers are currently on restricted duties and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 25 September 2020.
The charges came after a public complaint sparked the initial IOPC investigation. The complaint arose from an incident on Sunday, 5 January 2020, where a member of the public sustained an injury during an encounter with the officers.
