Thug Jailed for Over Three Years After Sickening Attacks on Ex-Girlfriend
Relationship Turns Toxic in Just Eight Months
George Leighton, 26, with no fixed address, has been locked up for three years and four months at Lewes Crown Court. The court heard how his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, which started in January 2024, spiralled into violence after only eight months.
Horrific Strangulation and Brutal Assaults
- 14 September: Leighton throttled his partner twice while driving from Sunbury, leaving her struggling for breath, before punching her in the face.
- 10 October: Back at their home, he pinned her against the headboard and squeezed her neck, bruising her neck, shoulder, and arm as she fought for air.
- 15 October: When she refused to lend him her car, Leighton slammed her head repeatedly against the vehicle door until she blacked out. After she regained consciousness, he forced her head into his lap and crashed the car, leaving her with a split lip and chunks of hair ripped out.
Violence Escalates Before Arrest
- 18 October: Leighton hurled her phone out of the car window and smashed it on the ground.
- 20 October: He turned up shouting at her friend’s house and smashed her car window.
Police arrested Leighton on 21 October. In custody, he refused to answer questions and laughed when shown footage of him shouting at his victim’s doorstep.
Guilty on Multiple Charges, Faces Lengthy Jail Time
Leighton admitted two counts of criminal damage and was found guilty of two counts of intentional strangulation and three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. His violent terror reigns over as he now faces a tough jail sentence.
