Nearly 70 Cars Nabbed in Kent Uninsured Driving Crackdown
Kent Police cracked down hard on uninsured drivers during a national week-long blitz, seizing 69 vehicles and slapping fines and penalty points on dodgy motorists.
Operation Drive Insured Hits the Road
Between 15 and 21 November 2021, officers from Kent’s Roads Policing Unit took part in Operation Drive Insured, a nationwide campaign targeting drivers without insurance.
They stopped and checked hundreds of vehicles, focusing on uninsured cars to slash road risks.
Shocking Road Safety Stats
- Every year in the UK, 130 people die and 26,000 get injured in crashes involving uninsured or untraced drivers.
- That’s a casualty every 20 minutes!
- One in five road collisions involve uninsured or untraced motorists.
Drivers Face Big Fines, Points & Seizures
The unlucky 69 caught without insurance got a Traffic Offence Report, meaning fines and points on their licences.
Their vehicles were impounded, with drivers facing extra fees to reclaim their cars — or risk crushing.
Speeding was another big issue: 297 caught by police or safety cameras. Nine more got dinged for skipping seatbelts.
Seven arrests rounded off the operation, including for drink and drug driving offences.
Police Warn Uninsured Drivers: Beware
“If you are driving uninsured then be prepared to have your vehicle seized, risk it being crushed and face significant fines and points on your licence,” said Roads Policing Chief Inspector Craig West.
“Those who commit these crimes put law-abiding motorists at unnecessary risk. We’re committed to repeatedly targeting uninsured drivers to make the roads safer.
“Driving uninsured is often linked to other criminality. That’s why we take a tough stance.”
