Newcastle Couple Jailed for Stoke-on-Trent Violence
A Newcastle-under-Lyme couple have been locked up for a total of four years following their part in a violent disorder in Stoke-on-Trent. Ciaran Lockett, 34, and his partner Deana Evans, 32, were sentenced today at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court after pleading guilty.
Captured on Camera: Attacking Police and Blocking Emergency Van
CCTV and bodycam footage showed the pair launching missiles, shoving police lines, and hurling abuse at officers trying to keep the peace. The most shocking scene caught them blocking a police van with flashing emergency lights, pressing against it to stop it moving through the crowd. Despite police orders, they refused to budge and had to be dragged away by officers.
The chaos didn’t stop there. The footage also captured Lockett and Evans confronting police so aggressively that officers had to use public order shields to push them back.
Arrest Drama and Sentencing
The duo were arrested at their home on August 22 after being identified from the footage. During the arrest, Evans elbowed a police officer in the chest while officers seized her phone. She resisted being handcuffed before finally being taken into custody along with Lockett.
At sentencing, Evans was jailed for 20 months for violent disorder and common assault of an emergency worker. Lockett received a 32-month sentence for violent disorder.
Police Crackdown Continues
Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Ellison said, “We’ve worked tirelessly to review all evidence, identify those involved, and take decisive action. More arrests, charges, and convictions will follow as we stop those who spread senseless violence across Staffordshire.”
So far, over 60 arrests have been made, with 25 charged in connection to the violence in Stoke-on-Trent on August 3 and Tamworth on August 4.
