A reckless driver has been slammed with a 17-year jail sentence after speeding at more than twice the limit and causing a fatal smash in Rochester.
Speed Demon Hits 77mph, Kills Two Innocents
Isidoro Olim, 35, was flying along City Way in his BMW 118i around midnight on October 29, 2022. The 30mph speed limit was a distant memory as he pushed 77mph, then slammed the brakes—but only down to 65mph—before smashing into a Skoda pulling out of a driveway.
The horrific crash instantly killed two men in their 50s. Two other passengers suffered severe injuries and were rushed to hospital.
Driver Denies Role, Then Confesses – Partner Also Jailed
Olim had been drinking that night and initially tried to pin the blame on his partner, claiming she was behind the wheel. He stayed silent during early police questioning but admitted three months later that he was actually driving.
At Maidstone Crown Court, Olim first denied dangerous driving charges but soon changed his plea to guilty. He was sentenced to 17 years and two months in prison.
His partner, Isabel Nunes, received 20 months behind bars for attempting to cover up the truth by faking injuries and deleting phone records.
Investigator Slams Drunk Driver’s ‘No Remorse’
“Olim’s reckless decision to drive drunk and at dangerous speeds has devastated two families. His attempts to dodge responsibility showed no remorse,” said Detective Constable Hannah Mungeam. “I hope this sentence brings some closure to those affected.”
