19 Years On: The Untold Tragedy of Leon Forbes’ Murder
Nearly two decades ago, just after midnight on 7 December 2003, 21-year-old music producer Leon Forbes was fatally shot in Clapham. The promising young talent was on his way to share a new CD with a friend when gunfire shattered the night.
Brutal Ambush in Clapham Car Park
Leon sat in his mother’s black Vauxhall Astra when assailants opened fire from another vehicle. He was hit in the neck, slumped over the steering wheel, and crashed into nearby cars. Witnesses saw two cars – a red and a silver Saab – speed away.
His friend quickly alerted Leon’s mother. The family desperately tried to save him with CPR before emergency services arrived. Sadly, Leon was pronounced dead that morning at 9:20am.
Family Pleads for Justice After Two Decades
“Leon’s family have desperately waited for justice for almost 20 years. You may now feel differently about speaking to us,” said Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Greig of the Met’s Specialist Casework Team. “Any information will be treated with absolute confidence.”
Leon’s sister Erica poured her heart out:
“The terror, the fear, the memory of trying to give Leon CPR haunt me. Our lives changed forever that night. My mother promised to see justice done but sadly passed away last year. I will keep fighting to bring those responsible to court and ask them – WHY?”
Leon’s Dream Cut Short
Leon Forbes was an up-and-coming music star. Renting a studio in North London, his band reached the MOBO Unsung Awards finals. A proud father of one, he was awaiting the birth of his second child.
His mother Michelle, a former probation officer and co-founder of Mothers Against Guns, campaigned tirelessly for tougher gun crime laws before her passing. Now, the family urges anyone with information to step forward.
Call for Witnesses to Break Silence
Five people were arrested after Leon’s murder, but all were later released without charge. Police renew their appeal for information.

Leon would have turned 41 this December. For his family, he remains forever 21 – a life stolen far too soon.
