COVID Jab Victim, 70s, Robbed in Broad Daylight
Police were called at 8.55am on Sunday, 28 March after a woman in her 70s was targeted outside a home on Rectory Green. She had just returned from receiving her COVID jab when a man snatched her mobile phone and bank card.
Thankfully, the woman was not hurt but left shaken by the ordeal.
Suspect Flees After Police Taser and Baton Use
Minutes later, officers spotted a man believed to be the culprit on Bury New Road. A dramatic chase followed, during which the suspect resisted arrest. Police deployed a Taser and used a baton to subdue him, causing a head wound.
Despite the injury, the man escaped and remains at large.
Man Claims Head Injury from Domestic Incident
Detectives say the suspect has told acquaintances his head injury came from a domestic incident. So far, there’s no proof he sought medical care.
It’s also thought the man may be homeless, reportedly seen sleeping on scaffolding.
Police Seek Another Man in Connection with the Robbery
Officers have released a photo of a second man they want to question. He was spotted outside the Metrolink at Rectory Green on the day of the robbery.
Detective Constable Donna Haldane, of GMP Bury’s CID, said: “Our investigation into this robbery is ongoing and with every development we receive we are broadening our search for the man involved. We have also released an image of another man whose welfare we are concerned about and who we want to speak to. Anyone with information should come forward.”
