Human remains were discovered at Oakwood Pond on New Year’s Eve, sparking a major murder investigation in Harlow.

Man Charged and Others Arrested in Murder Probe

  • Lee Clarke, 55, from Wedhey, Harlow, has been charged with murder. He is set to stand trial on 1 August.
  • A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder but has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
  • On 22 February, a 33-year-old man from Harlow was also arrested on suspicion of murder and later freed on bail.

Police Conduct Extensive Searches Across Local Ponds

Since launching the investigation, officers have carried out hundreds of enquiries, including searching Netteswell Pond and four other ponds and reservoirs in Harlow. Specialist search teams have been scouring the water to gather crucial evidence.

Detective Superintendent Pleads for Public Help

Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby, Head of Major Crime, said: “These continued efforts are all going towards our aim in finding out what happened to Phil and hopefully securing justice for his family, who have been suffering greatly these past couple of months.”

“Residents in Harlow may have noticed police activity across various areas this week as we carried out this work.

“We have a dedicated team supporting Phil’s family through this extremely difficult time.

“It’s not too late to submit information. We urge anyone with details who hasn’t spoken to us yet to get in touch.”
