Drink-Driver Jailed After Mowing Down Man in Street Row
A drunken lout was caught and jailed after deliberately running down a man following a street argument in Ashford.
Crash Caught on CCTV
Kent Police sprang into action after CCTV footage at Vicarage Lane car park showed 31-year-old Terry Dunne slam his white Range Rover into a 48-year-old victim at around 4am on Sunday, 1 April 2018. The brazen driver then fled the scene but was chased by officers for 100 yards before being arrested in Station Road.
Nearly Twice the Drink Drive Limit
Tests revealed Dunne was almost twice over the legal alcohol limit. During his first interview, he admitted his driving “wasn’t the best” but denied any intent to hit the man. The CCTV footage told a different story, clearly showing Dunne purposefully plough into the victim after a row involving a group of people.
Injured Victim Rushed to Hospital
The victim was left injured on the floor and rushed to a London hospital for treatment. Dunne later pleaded guilty at Canterbury Crown Court to grievous bodily harm and drink driving.
Six Years Inside and a 65-Month Ban
On 20 July 2018, Dunne was sentenced to six years behind bars and hit with a 65-month driving ban.
Detective Constable Kirsty Gee said: “Dunne used the force of a car to purposely hit his victim and cause him harm. He showed no remorse as he sped away, despite being over the limit.”
“The victim was lucky not to have received more serious injuries. There is never an excuse for premeditated violence — and Dunne will now serve time where he can no longer pose a threat to the public.”
