64mph in a 30mph Zone! Speed Demon Busted in Wiltshire Police Crackdown

A driver was clocked speeding at a shocking 64mph in a 30mph zone during Wiltshire Police’s latest Project Zero blitz in Salisbury. This reckless motorist was among 125 offenders caught in the force’s latest crackdown on dangerous driving.

Project Zero Targets ‘Fatal Five’ Traffic Offenders

On Wednesday, 19 February, officers from the Roads Policing Unit, Serious Collision Investigation Team, and Speed Watch Enforcement hit traffic hotspots across Salisbury, including The Avenue in Wilton, Odstock Road, Downton Road, and Coombe Bissett.

Project Zero tackles the so-called “Fatal Five” offences: speeding, drink or drug driving, mobile phone use while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and careless or dangerous driving. The campaign aims to slash road deaths and serious injuries in Wiltshire.

125 Offenders Nabbed in Salisbury Operation

  • 117 caught speeding
  • 3 caught without seatbelts
  • 3 uninsured drivers
  • 1 driver using a mobile phone
  • 1 vehicle without a valid MOT

Of the 117 speeding offences, 81 drivers were offered speed awareness courses. Thirty were slapped with £100 fines and three penalty points on their licences. Six, including the mega-speeder at 64mph, have been summoned to court for speeding offences exceeding 50mph in 30mph zones.

Wiltshire Police Send Clear Warning to Motorists

“Speeding is one of the biggest contributors to serious road traffic collisions,” said Chief Inspector James Brain of the Roads Policing Unit. “Project Zero’s goal is simple — to reduce deaths and serious injuries by cracking down on dangerous driving behaviour.” “Speed limits exist for a reason. Reckless driving puts your life and others at risk. Operations like these deter offenders and hold them to account.”

Wiltshire Police vow to keep the pressure up with more Project Zero days across the county. Drivers are urged to follow the rules and report dangerous driving at Wiltshire Police’s website or by calling 101.
