Drugs Seized and Tenants Booted After Police Raids in Sutton-in-Ashfield
Two swift police raids in Sutton-in-Ashfield have landed drugs and prompted strong action against nuisance tenants. Officers hit two properties on Chatsworth Street on Wednesday, cracking down on an ongoing drugs probe.
Amphetamines Found, Woman Cautioned
At one address, cops uncovered a stash of amphetamines. A 58-year-old woman was questioned and later given a caution for possession of a class B drug.
The property was in such dreadful condition it earned a prohibition order from Ashfield District Council. No one is allowed to live there until major repairs are made. Meanwhile, eviction notices have been served to the tenants.
Closure Notice for Second Property After Antisocial Behaviour
The second home wasn’t escaping trouble either. Due to repeated antisocial incidents, the council slapped a closure notice on it. Current tenants now face immediate eviction, pending a court review.
Police and Council Crack Down Together
“Drug-related crime wrecks communities. We’re committed to smashing supply and safeguarding residents,” said Sergeant Kate Long.
“We take antisocial behaviour seriously and work closely with the council to take decisive action. We want people to report any info on drugs or nuisance behaviour.”
Theresa Hodgkinson, council director for place and communities, added: “We’ve joined forces with the police to clamp down on drug crime and antisocial behaviour. We won’t tolerate it here.”
“Issuing prohibition orders helps ensure housing standards are safe. Ashfield must stay safe for all who live and work here.”
Anyone with information on drug crime or antisocial behaviour in Chatsworth Street is urged to come forward and help keep the community safe.
