A man set for sentencing after driving nearly four times over the drink-drive limit stunned Isle of Wight magistrates by showing up to court absolutely hammered – forcing the hearing to be scrapped.
Magistrates Slam Horner for Boozing on Day of Sentencing
Neil Horner, 49, was due in front of the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court to face punishment for his drink-driving offence. But officials halted the session after spotting he was too worse-for-wear to proceed.
Jan Routledge, chair of the bench, told Horner: “We don’t feel you understand what’s been going on here, because you’ve been drinking.”
She ordered him to return sober by 9:30am on 12 December, warning sharply, “If you turn up drunk next time, you will be held in contempt of court.”
Horner’s Shocking Driving and Assault Offences
- Admitted driving a blue Mitsubishi in Shanklin at nearly four times the legal alcohol limit.
- Breath test revealed 128 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath – the limit is 35.
- Pled guilty to assaulting two people on the same day in July.
- Has been banned from entering a local nursing home.
With Horner’s own booze-fuelled antics putting the court on edge, this courtroom drama is far from over. Watch this space for the next twist in his wild legal saga.
