Swindon Man Banned for Drug Driving While Towing Another Car
Christopher Hoskin, 35, from Bowleymead, Swindon, has been slapped with a 12-month driving ban after pleading guilty to drug driving. The court heard how Hoskin was caught behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Astra while towing a Honda Civic – all under the influence of cocaine.
Caught Red-Handed on Patrol
On February 14, police on mobile patrol spotted Hoskin driving near Pavenhill, Purton. They stopped both vehicles at Dogridge after suspecting he was drug impaired. A roadside drug wipe test came back positive for cocaine, leading to his arrest and charges.
High Cocaine Levels and Heavy Fines
PC Jonathan Kilburn revealed the results showed Hoskin had more than four times the legal cocaine limit in his bloodstream. “Hoskin had over 200 micrograms of benzoylecgonine per 100ml of blood, when the legal limit is only 50,” he said. “Driving under the influence of cocaine is incredibly dangerous, and towing a vehicle only ups the risk.”
- 12-month driving ban for Hoskin
- £246 fine plus £37 victim surcharge
- Additional £85 costs to Crown Prosecution Service
Police Issue Warning to Public
“If you suspect someone of drug driving, call 999 immediately in an emergency,” urged PC Kilburn. “Give as much detail as possible, including the vehicle’s direction and description.”
Drivers, take note: getting behind the wheel on drugs is a recipe for disaster, especially when towing another car. The Swindon man’s hefty ban and fines send a clear message — don’t risk it.
