Eastbourne’s Notorious Shoplifter Finally Tagged and Restricted
Shane Monery, 36, has been slammed with an electronic tag and a tough three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after a spree of shoplifting in Eastbourne. Sussex Police are cracking down hard on repeat offenders, making an example of Monery.
Ten Shoplifting Charges Land Suspended Jail and Strict Controls
Monery, from Hamsey Close, faced Brighton Magistrates’ Court on February 16 for 10 separate shoplifting offences across Eastbourne. He was handed a 12-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, plus a rehabilitation programme.
In addition, Monery must wear an electronic tag for a year and faces a three-year CBO banning him from entering any shops he’s been barred from – including all Co-op stores across East Sussex.
Co-op Shops Hit Hard as Sussex Police Step Up Fight
Monery’s crime spree stretched over months, targeting the Co-op on Albert Parade and fuelling heavy losses. Sussex Police say the case shows their commitment to protecting local businesses.
“We are leading the way with this innovative scheme to tackle repeat offenders and will continue working closely with our partners to protect our business community.”
