Eight Arrested After Three Cops Attacked Ahead of Spurs vs Ajax Clash
Tensions boiled over before the Tottenham Hotspur v Ajax Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, 30 April, as disorder erupted in North London. Police made eight arrests after a violent stand-off on Brereton Road, leaving three officers injured.
Violence Erupts on Brereton Road
Around 7.15pm, officers on patrol saw a group smashing up pavement and walls, hurling debris in a dangerous rampage. When police tried to step in, three of them were assaulted, though luckily none suffered serious injuries.
“Three police officers were assaulted whilst attempting to intervene. They were seen by medical staff and their injuries were not deemed as serious,” a police spokesperson said.
Four Held For Separate Offences
- Three men aged 29, 35, and 23 were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder at the scene.
- A 29-year-old man was also arrested for violent disorder and assault on police.
- A 25-year-old was nabbed for racially aggravated public order offences.
- A 26-year-old was held for affray.
- A 40-year-old got charged with being drunk and disorderly and cannabis possession.
- A 30-year-old was arrested for public order offences and common assault.
All Remain in Custody or Under Investigation
The men arrested for violent disorder and assault remain in custody. The 40-year-old involved in drunken disorder has been charged and bailed for a court date. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old received a caution but remains under investigation for common assault.
Police continue to probe the violence ahead of one of football’s biggest fixtures, vowing to clamp down on any disorder at future events.
