Newhaven Man Caught for Seven Child Sex Offences
Robert Daniels, 75, has been held responsible for seven child sex offences committed against a young girl between 2013 and 2019. The Newhaven resident was slapped with a seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) following the verdict.
Licence Holder at Local Pub During Crimes
At the time of the offences, Daniels was the licensee of the Engineer Public House in Newhaven. Despite suffering from dementia and being deemed unfit to enter a plea, a jury found him guilty of all charges.
Harsh Restrictions Imposed After Hove Crown Court Verdict
- Seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order issued
- Ban on contacting victim and her family
- Prohibited from entering Engineer Public House and Railway Road in Newhaven
- Additional seven years added to Sex Offenders Register
Daniels had already been on the Sex Offenders Register since 2018 for a separate sexual assault.
Detective Praises Victim’s Courage, Vows Community Protection
“Robert Daniels is a predatory sex offender who groomed not only a child, but an entire community,” said Detective Sergeant Nick Green from Eastbourne’s Safeguarding Investigations Unit.
“I would like to thank his young victim for the incredible bravery she has shown in reporting these crimes and supporting the investigation through to prosecution.”
“While a prison sentence wasn’t possible due to Daniels’ health, the verdict confirms his guilt and holds him to account. The Sexual Harm Prevention Order and extended registration will help protect the victim, her family, and other children from further harm.”
