A heartbreaking murder investigation is underway after a five-year-old boy was found stabbed to death in a house in Faringdon, Oxfordshire. The boy, believed to be of primary school age, was discovered on Tuesday with a fatal chest wound.

Police arrested a 40-year-old woman on suspicion of murder. She has since been released on bail until 12 April as detectives continue their inquiries.

“At this time no formal identification has taken place, so I am not able to name the child,” said Detective Chief Inspector Ailsa Kent of the Major Crime Unit. “You will appreciate this is a difficult time for his family and we continue to work with them and offer support as the investigation continues.”
