Massive Container Blaze in Barking Sparks Four-Pump Fire Response
Emergency services rushed to Selneck Exports on River Road, Barking, this afternoon after a fire erupted inside a giant steel container. The blaze broke out around 2pm today (Friday, May 2), triggering a robust four-pump response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB).
Firefighters arrived sharpish at the industrial site to tackle the inferno engulfing a colossal 40ft by 10ft steel container.
Fire Under Control as Crews Battle Flames
LFB crews deployed multiple hoses and breathing apparatus to wrestle the flames under control. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far, and the fire remains largely confined to the steel unit.
The alarm was raised by a neighbour business who spotted smoke billowing from the container. Now, the Fire Investigation Unit (FIU) from the London Fire Brigade is on scene, working hard to uncover the fire’s cause.
“Four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters responded to a fire inside a 40ft steel container at a commercial site in Barking. Crews worked swiftly to contain the fire and prevent further spread,” a London Fire Brigade source confirmed.
Investigation Ongoing as River Road Reopens
At this stage, the cause of the fire is still unknown. Investigators from the London Fire Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit are examining the scene thoroughly to determine what sparked the blaze.
Meanwhile, access to parts of River Road was temporarily restricted during the emergency, but roads have now reopened, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
