Gun and drugs bust in North London as man faces multiple charges after Met cops swoop

Arrest after Met’s Violent Crime Taskforce stop vehicle

On the evening of Thursday, 12 November, officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Violent Crime Taskforce pulled over a vehicle in north London. Inside was 29-year-old Azeem Akhtar from Cooper Road, who was quickly slapped with a string of serious charges.

Serious charges pile up for Akhtar

Akhtar now faces:

  • Possession of a prohibited Scorpion submachine gun (length under 60cm)
  • Possession with intent to supply Class A drug – Heroin
  • Possession with intent to supply Class B drug – Cannabis Resin
  • Possession of criminal property linked to a cash haul worth around £200,000

Court dates and co-defendants

Akhtar appeared in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 14 November. He’s been remanded to face Harrow Crown Court on Friday, 11 December.

Two other men, aged 29 and 30, were also arrested but have since been bailed pending further enquiries.
