Man convicted of brutal machete murder in East London
Christopher Owens-Wright, 23, from E15, has been found guilty of murdering 23-year-old Michael Fadeyibi. Owens-Wright also faces charges for causing grievous bodily harm to a second man during the savage attack.
Hunt on for second suspect Ryan Igbinovia
Police are now urgently searching for Ryan Igbinovia, 26, believed to have helped Owens-Wright chase and attack Michael and his friend in the early hours of August 6, 2021. The suspects were armed with machetes as they pursued the victims through Newham’s streets.
“Christopher Owens-Wright has been found guilty of murder,” confirmed Detective Chief Inspector Kelly Allen. “We’re appealing to the public for any info on Ryan Igbinovia. Michael’s family are devastated and deserve justice.”
The chilling night of the attack
- The pursuit ended on Henniker Road, where Owens-Wright and Igbinovia stabbed Michael multiple times.
- Michael’s friend was also attacked but escaped with minor injuries.
- Emergency services arrived but Michael was rushed to hospital where he sadly died.
- Owens-Wright fled to Nottingham but was caught two days later with injuries matching the knife found at the scene, which had his DNA on it.
Strong evidence sealed Owens-Wright’s fate
CCTV footage traced the violent chase. Forensic analysis linked Owens-Wright’s phone movements to the crime scene. Investigators also found receipts for three machetes at his home, along with his fingerprints on the packaging.
Despite Owens-Wright’s silence during questioning, the case against him was overwhelming. Sentencing will be set on a future date at Inner London Crown Court.
