Four Guilty Over Brutal Murder of 18-Year-Old at London Internet Café

Police were called to an internet café on London Road on 16 April after reports that 18-year-old Michael Toohey had been seriously assaulted. Paramedics rushed him to hospital, but tragically, Michael was pronounced dead. A post-mortem revealed he died from multiple injuries.

Trial Drama Ends With Murder Convictions

Nine suspects were charged with Michael’s murder. Their trial kicked off at Liverpool Crown Court on 14 November, where they all denied the charges.

On 6 January, a jury found four men guilty: Kieran Williams, 28, of no fixed abode; Anthony Williams, 32, of Hillbrook Drive, Walton; Michael Williams, 25, of Carlake Grove, Walton; and Steven McInerney, 34, also of no fixed abode.

Three other defendants were cleared of murder. Meanwhile, the jury also found a 14-year-old boy guilty, though he remains unnamed for legal reasons. Another defendant was found not guilty.

Sentencing Date Still Up in the Air

Officials have yet to set a sentencing date for the Williams brothers, McInerney, and the 14-year-old convict. The community awaits justice for Michael, who was about to become a father.

Detective Slams ‘Shocking and Senseless’ Attack

“This was a truly shocking and brutal assault which led to the tragic and senseless death of a young man, Michael Toohey, who was about to become a father,” said Detective Chief Inspector Stephen McGrath.

“Michael had only just arrived at the centre to meet friends when he was tracked down and fatally attacked.

“No one can understand the toll his sudden death has taken on his family and friends.

“While nothing brings Michael back, I hope these convictions bring some sense of justice to his loved ones.”
