Gosport Scumbag Jailed for Robbing 80-Year-Old Pensioner
A 38-year-old man from Gosport has been locked up for three years after brazenly burgling an elderly woman’s home.
Brutal Burglary of Pensioner’s Home
Terrance Patrick Braden from Chilworth Grove was caught after police matched his DNA to a break-in on May 5 in Lee-on-the-Solent. The crook stole a handbag containing £100 in cash from an 80-year-old woman’s house.
He admitted the burglary at Portsmouth Crown Court on July 6 and was sentenced to 876 days behind bars for the crime.
More Crimes, More Time Behind Bars
Braden’s troubles didn’t end there. On top of the burglary sentence, he was hit with additional jail time for more offences:
- 182 days for using fake credit and debit cards to buy cigarettes on April 17.
- 182 days for stealing from a car on the same day.
- 57 days for breaching a conditional discharge.
Some of these sentences will run consecutively, ensuring Braden stays locked up for a long spell.
Police Warn Residents to Stay Vigilant
“Residential burglary offences can have a dramatic impact on victims, especially if items of sentimental value are taken. I’m glad that this sentence reflects the seriousness of Braden’s offending,” said investigating officer PC Alam Mahmmued.
Police are urging locals to beef up home security with these top tips:
- Lock all doors and windows when you leave or go to bed.
- Use multi-point locks on UPVC doors and secure handles with keys.
- Keep car and house keys out of sight, away from letterboxes and windows.
- Leave lights or radios on timers to make your home look lived-in.
- Lock side gates to prevent access to the back of your property.
- Secure ladders and garden tools in sheds.
- Consider installing a visible intruder alarm and security lighting.
- Use door chains and spy holes for extra doorstep protection.
- Trust your instincts—don’t hesitate to turn away strangers. Call police if suspicious.
Stay safe, Gosport. Don’t let scumbags like Braden spoil your peace of mind.
