Hackney Man Busted for Sick Online Child Abuse
The Met police swooped on Adam Shine at his Hackney home on Digby Road on February 6 following a tip-off from the National Crime Agency (NCA). Shine was linked to vile indecent images of children, triggering a full investigation by the Met’s Online Child Sex Abuse Investigation Team.
Chilling Omegle Calls with Kids Exposed
Officers found that Shine engaged in three separate video calls last April with two 11-year-old girls and an 8-year-old girl via the Omegle website. During these calls, he performed sexual acts live on camera and coerced the children to do the same.
Using clues from the footage, police managed to locate and safeguard an 11-year-old victim in the UK. However, two other children believed to be in the US remain missing due to Omegle’s shutdown in November 2023. Authorities have passed details to American counterparts for investigation.
Justice Served with Tough Sentence and Lifetime Monitoring
Shine, who worked at an adult shop in central London, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on March 3 to sexual communication and causing the children to perform sexual acts. Though he never met the victims in person, he was sentenced to four and a half years behind bars on June 14.
He also faces an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, ensuring continued protection for children after his release.
Public Urged to Stay Vigilant and Report Offenders
The police are urging anyone aware of similar offences to call 101 or report online. For those who want to stay anonymous, the independent charity Crimestoppers offers a confidential tip-off service.
