Fake Cash Frenzy Ends in Violent Brawl with Police in Brighton

Chaos erupted early this morning in Brighton when two men caught using counterfeit £20 notes at a local bar turned violent, attacking police officers called to the scene.

Bar Staff Spot Fake Notes, Police Called to Zahara on East Street

Officers were summoned to Zahara bar on Brighton’s East Street around 2am after reports surfaced about fake currency being passed. Staff quickly alerted police after spotting several dodgy twenty-pound notes.

Fight Breaks Out as Suspects Resist Arrest

When police detained a 21-year-old man from south Croydon, he fought back aggressively, resisting arrest. A second man, 25, from Epsom, was also arrested after assaulting a police officer while trying to interfere with the arrest.

Drug Charges and Multiple Offences

Sussex Police confirmed several counterfeit notes were recovered for forensic checks. The Croydon man faces serious charges including:

  • Using fake currency
  • Assaulting an emergency worker
  • Obstructing or resisting arrest
  • Possession of Class A drugs

The 25-year-old Epsom man was charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

A heavy police presence remained at the scene following the incident, as investigations continue.
