Hero Cop Tackles Knife-Wielding Attacker at Lewisham Petrol Station
A brave police officer has been hailed a hero after he wrestled a knife-wielding attacker to the ground at a petrol station on Lee High Road, Lewisham. His quick thinking stopped a violent assault in its tracks, saving a man’s life.
PC Morgan Younger’s Daring Intervention
PC Morgan Younger, just 23, was on routine patrol on Saturday, January 25, when he stopped off at a petrol station for a drink. There, he spotted a man violently attacking someone with a large knife at the entrance.
Without hesitation, PC Younger charged, bravely tackling the suspect and disarming him single-handedly while calling for backup.
Knife Attacker Cuffed After Intense Struggle
The attacker, 66-year-old Fitzgerald Carty, was trying to stab a man in his 40s when PC Younger jumped in. The officer wrestled Carty to the ground and held him down for five tense minutes until reinforcements arrived.
Thanks to PC Younger’s decisive action, the victim escaped unharmed.
Chief Superintendent Praises Officer’s Bravery
Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, overseeing Lewisham policing, praised PC Younger’s “exceptional bravery.”
“A dangerous man is now behind bars thanks to the outstanding work of PC Younger. He saw a very violent crime in progress and didn’t hesitate to race in and wrestle the knifeman to the ground. I have no doubt that without his intervention, the victim would have been seriously injured.”
PC Younger has since been nominated for a commendation for his courage and professionalism.
Attacker Sentenced to 30 Months Behind Bars
Fitzgerald Carty, from Dacre Park, Lewisham, was arrested the day after the incident and charged with possession of a knife and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.
At Woolwich Crown Court on February 24, Carty pleaded guilty and received 30 months in prison for the attack, with an additional six-month concurrent sentence for illegal knife possession.
PC Younger Speaks Out
“I had just stopped to get a drink before an appointment when I saw the commotion. I acted instinctively and without question. I just needed to stop a clearly dangerous man with a knife. My training kicked in, and I did everything I could.” “I live and breathe policing – I have a strong desire to help those in need and keep people safe.”
