Homeless Man Jailed for Killing Dad with One Brutal Punch in Nottingham

A homeless man has been locked up for nearly seven years after a single punch killed a beloved father-of-three in Nottingham. Kevin Wild, 53, attacked 43-year-old Jermaine Mazlum outside their homeless shelter in St Ann’s on June 17.

Fatal Sucker Punch

Jermaine, who had suffered a serious head injury in 2020, was left with catastrophic damage after Wild punched him in the head. He fell, hitting his head on the road, and never recovered.

Despite knowing Jermaine’s vulnerability, Wild—who was drunk at the time—launched the unprovoked attack for reasons even his own lawyer couldn’t explain. Jermaine died weeks later in hospital from his “un-survivable” injuries.

Justice Served

Wild pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Nottingham Crown Court and was sentenced to six years and nine months behind bars. Judge Nirmal Shant KC called the assault “completely unprovoked” and described it as a “sucker punch—he wouldn’t have seen it coming.”

CCTV footage revealed Wild casually crossing the street before delivering the fatal blow.

“He simply can’t explain why he lashed out. There was no rivalry between them. He is deeply and sincerely remorseful,” said Wild’s defence solicitor.

Family Heartbreak

Jermaine’s grieving family described him as “an amazing brother, a loving son, and an amazing father to his three children.” They spoke of the crushing loss and the joy Jermaine brought to everyone around him with his laughter and vibrant personality.

Detective Inspector Clare Gibson of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Kevin Wild’s actions that evening took away Jermaine’s future in an instant as well as destroying so many other lives forever.”

A Stark Warning

This tragic case is a chilling reminder of how one moment of violence can brutally end a life and shatter many others. A single punch ruined Jermaine’s future and left his family devastated for good.
