Folkestone thug jailed for vicious early-morning assault on pensioner
A Folkestone man has been slammed behind bars for over two years after brutally attacking a pensioner in his own home.
Unprovoked attack at victim’s doorstep
In the early hours of Sunday 22 September 2019, Glenn Linaker, 64, showed up at a man’s house in Folkestone banging on the front door. He demanded money, claiming the victim owed him for a rug he had given him previously.
Assault turns violent as victim tries to flee
Linaker’s aggression escalated quickly. He launched into a fierce assault until the victim agreed to go to a cash machine to withdraw money. But as Linaker turned his back, the brave victim escaped by climbing out of a first-floor window, dropping to the ground, and fleeing to find help. He suffered head and body injuries requiring hospital treatment.
Swift arrest and tough sentence
Linaker, from Gladstone Road, Folkestone, was arrested the same day. At Canterbury Crown Court, he admitted causing actual bodily harm. On 20 February 2020, he was sentenced to 27 months in prison.
PC Matt Johnston said: “This was an unprovoked serious assault which must have been very frightening for the victim. I hope Linaker’s prison sentence brings reassurance that he is unable to cause any more harm.”
