Cyclist Hit and Chased in Shocking Hit-and-Run on Herbert Avenue

At around 5.20pm on Tuesday 22 November 2022, a cyclist had a terrifying run-in on Herbert Avenue, between Newlyn Way and Northmere Road. Riding past a line of parked cars waiting at traffic lights, he spotted a driver in a dark blue hatchback using a mobile phone. The cyclist knocked on the car window to tell him to put it down.

Driver Loses It and Follows Cyclist

The driver exploded in rage, shouting at the cyclist before tailing him as traffic restarted. The chase continued through Northmere Road and into Sancreed Road. The furious driver then rammed the cyclist from behind, knocking the man off his bike.

Cyclist Injured, Driver Flees Scene

The cyclist, a man in his 50s wearing a high-vis jacket with flashing front and rear bike lights, suffered injuries deemed not serious. The hit-and-run driver sped off without stopping.

Police Issue Urgent Appeal for Witnesses

“This was a very distressing incident for the cyclist involved and we are carrying out a number of enquiries into this matter,” said Police Constable Matthew Batter of Poole Police.

“I urge anyone who witnessed the incident or caught anything on dashcam to come forward.

“I would also urge the driver involved to do the right thing and come forward so we can take your account.”
