Knife-Wielding Gangster Jailed After Police Chase

Terrel Doyley, 23, from Lambeth, was locked up for six months on Tuesday, 29 June, for carrying a deadly bladed weapon. He also picked up an extra day for having a Class C drug on him. Doyley admitted guilt to both charges on 28 May.

Fleeing Police with a Samurai Sword

Back on 12 November 2020, officers from the Violent Crime Task Force stopped a car on Clapham Common Southside near Balham. When police halted the vehicle, the rear passenger door suddenly swung open and Doyley bolted.

Officers gave chase and caught him on Lynette Avenue. A search found cannabis in his coat. But the real shock came when a member of the public tipped police off that Doyley had dropped something—turns out it was a Samurai-style sword found nearby on Cavendish Road.

Bound by a Gang Injunction

Doyley was already banned from carrying any blade or offensive weapon under a Gang Injunction slapped on him by croydon/" title="Croydon" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Croydon County Court in January 2019.

Initially, he denied possession of the sword but later pleaded guilty after forensic evidence linked him to the weapon.

Police Crackdown on London’s Violence

This arrest was part of Operation Sceptre, a Met-wide effort to cut down violent crime. This includes weapon sweeps, targeted patrols, and raids on high-risk offenders.

Detective Constable James Preston said: “This sentencing reflects a focused investigation by the Central South BCU and the Violent Crime Task Force. Removing weapons like this from the streets saves lives. Doyley’s crimes are tied to the violence and drug culture that plague our communities.”

“At the time of his arrest, Doyley was under a gang injunction restricting him from carrying blades or associating with certain people and places. This legal tool is crucial in stopping violent and intimidating offenders from causing further harm.”

Doyley’s conviction sends a clear message: London’s violent offenders are being targeted—and jailed. The police are determined to clear the streets of dangerous weapons and the criminals who wield them.
