Bebington Man Jailed for SHPO Breach and Child Abuse Images

Ian Hobley, 55, from Town Lane, Bebington, has been locked up for two years after breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Hobley admitted to 11 offences including making and possessing indecent images and flouting his SHPO conditions.

Unregistered Device Sparks Police Raid

The case blew open on October 6, 2023, during a routine visit by the Sex Offender Unit. Officers found an electronic device at Hobley’s home he hadn’t registered with police. A deep dive into the device uncovered suspected indecent images of children, resulting in his immediate arrest.

Shock Haul of Offences Unearthed

  • 450 Category A images (the most severe class)
  • 1,179 images in Categories B and C
  • Two Category A videos

Alongside a two-year prison sentence, Hobley’s SHPO has been extended to keep him under strict monitoring for the next ten years.

Police Praise Routine Checks and Partnerships

“Hobley was arrested after officers on a routine home visit as part of his SHPO found an electronic device that he hadn’t registered with us. This led to the sickening discovery of explicit sexual images of children,” said Detective Inspector Steven O’Neill.

O’Neill also stressed the crucial teamwork between police, probation, and housing partners in keeping communities safe and reducing reoffending risks.
