Man Fined Nearly £6,000 for Running Illegal Waste Dump in Worksop

A Worksop man has been slapped with a £941 fine and slapped with over £5,000 in costs after ignoring repeated warnings about an illegal waste site.

Environment Agency Cracks Down on Rogue Waste Operator

Andrzej Harytczak, 38, of Yeoman Close, was prosecuted by the Environment Agency for running a waste site without permits on Tranker Lane, Worksop. He operated the site between July and September 2017, and again from April to December 2019.

The court heard Harytczak dodged about £20,000 in infrastructure and permitting fees. On April 27, 2023, Mansfield magistrates fined him £941, ordered him to pay £5,000 costs and a £94 victim surcharge.

Ignoring Warnings, Site Poses Fire Risk and Environmental Hazard

  • Environment Agency launched investigation after early 2017 complaints.
  • Harytczak illegally stored construction, demolition, and household waste.
  • He was repeatedly warned a permit was required.
  • Officers found evidence of waste burning and a recent fire.
  • Site gates were later locked and covered to hide waste.

In a February 2020 interview, Harytczak admitted running waste activities on the site despite warnings.

Environment Agency Warns: Enforcement Will Continue

“We welcome this sentence from the court that we hope will act as a deterrent to others considering flouting the law,” an Environment Agency spokesperson said.

“This site posed a significant environmental threat due to the high risk of fire and potentially serious impact on local communities and amenities.”

“As a regulator, the Environment Agency will not hesitate to pursue individuals who fail to meet their environmental obligations.”

“Failure to comply with these legal requirements is a serious offence that can damage the environment, harm human health, and undermine legitimate local waste businesses.”
