Brothers Found Guilty of Brutal Manchester Airport Police Assault
Jury Delivers Guilty Verdict After Harrowing Attack
After nearly four weeks of testimony and emotional courtroom scenes, the jury has found Mohammed Fahir Amaaz and Muhammad Amaad guilty of violently assaulting three police officers at Manchester Airport. The brothers’ claim of self-defence was thrown out, with the panel ruling the attack was a “violent, sustained and unprovoked” assault on law enforcement officers carrying out their duties.
CCTV Footage Seals Their Fate
The turning point in the trial was distressing CCTV footage showing PC Zachary Marsden being repeatedly punched by Amaaz while Amaad also grabbed and attacked him. PC Lydia Ward and PC Ellie Cook were likewise assaulted and suffered injuries requiring hospital treatment.
Prosecutors described the assault as “relentless,” highlighting that blows continued even after officers were incapacitated.
Self-Defence Claims Rejected
The defence argued the brothers acted out of fear, claiming PC Marsden was the initial aggressor. But the jury saw the full uncut footage and heard eyewitness accounts, dismissing these claims.
“This was not panic or misunderstanding, but deliberate violence,” prosecutors told the court.
Ongoing Investigation and National Impact
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is still investigating the officers’ actions during the incident. Now that the criminal trial is over, the watchdog will decide if misconduct charges are warranted.
The verdict sends a clear signal nationwide. Policing bodies hailed it as a “clear message that violence against officers will not be tolerated.”
Sentencing is pending, with both Amaaz and Amaad facing lengthy jail terms.
