Kent Police Boost Patrols to Stop Illegal Beach Parties
Kent Police are ramping up patrols in public spaces and beaches this weekend. The goal? To enforce social distancing, crush illegal mass gatherings, and tackle any crime that comes with them. Despite forecasts of wet weather, officers will be out in force to make sure anyone venturing out plays by the rules.
Greatstone Beach Brawl: Officers Injured, Arrests Made
Officers are still investigating a nasty disturbance on Greatstone beach from Sunday, 9 August. Four cops were hurt during the chaos. So far, a 29-year-old man from Stockwell has been charged with dangerous driving and actual bodily harm.
Kent Police are also hunting down those who threw bottles at officers attending the scene.
More Illegal Meetups Foiled
The force caught wind of a planned seafront event in Leysdown set for 12 August. Police contacted the organiser and even travelled to Stratford, London, to warn attendees about current health rules. Despite this, the group moved on to Essex, where two men were arrested for conspiracy to commit a public nuisance.
Strong Warning from Kent Police
Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Faulconbridge said: “Those planning mass gatherings should think again. These events risk community harm and heighten Covid-19 health dangers. We are working with councils and other forces to minimise the impact and will act decisively against illegal gatherings.”
“Most people are following Government advice, but we will keep engaging with those who don’t – explaining guidelines and pushing for compliance.”
Covid-19 remains a serious threat. Kent’s residents and visitors are urged to keep their distance on beaches, parks, and outdoor spaces to stay safe.
