Kent Police Snags Gold for Top-Notch Military Support
Kent Police has bagged the coveted Gold status from the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme. The award celebrates organisations that go above and beyond for veterans and their families.
Backing Veterans in Every Way
The force has teamed up with Project Nova, a vital initiative helping veterans at risk of arrest. This project connects them to military charities for tailored support, giving those in tough spots a lifeline.
Inside Kent Police, there’s a dedicated hub on their internal website where former military employees can register their experience and spotlight ongoing work by themselves or family members. Plus, reservists get up to 15 days paid leave to juggle duties.
An app on police mobiles points staff to support services and advice right in their local area, ensuring help is always close at hand.
Strong Links with NHS Armed Forces Network
Kent Police works hand-in-glove with the NHS-led Armed Forces Network. Over 70 service champions throughout the force actively support veterans and their families, both inside the team and across diverse local communities.
The force also highlights military credentials on its recruitment website, encouraging ex-service personnel to join their ranks.
Leadership Speaks Out on Commitment
“I am both delighted and proud Kent has been recognised for supporting those from a military background,” said Temporary Chief Constable Tim Smith. “Since signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2020, we’ve climbed from Bronze to Silver, and now Gold status. Deputy Chief Officer Ian Drysdale, Inspector Andy Miller, and the whole network are committed to fair treatment for serving and ex-military personnel.”
“This work ensures the Armed Forces community gets the support needed and that their valuable skills enhance our service to the public. Huge congratulations to everyone involved!”
Deputy Chief Officer Ian Drysdale added: “Kent Police has a proud, long-standing link with the Armed Forces. This award recognises our efforts, but we aim higher. We’ll keep backing veterans, supporting reservists, and helping active military members we encounter.”
“We’re recruiting now and urge armed forces members leaving service with an exemplary character assessment to consider Kent Police. We’d love to talk to you.”
