Road Crackdown Kicks Off Nationwide: Drivers Beware!
Starting Monday, August 22, 2022, police nationwide will be out in force hunting down dangerous drivers. Officers will patrol day and night, targeting anyone driving under the influence or breaking motoring laws that put lives at risk.
Sniffer Dogs, Breath Tests, and Roadside Drug Wipes
Police have powers to stop vehicles, conduct breathalyser checks, and perform roadside drug tests. Anyone caught driving drunk or high faces swift prosecution. The crackdown is a joint effort, with multiple agencies working together to keep roads safe.
“Summer means more socialising, but if you plan to drink, leave your car keys at home,” warned Chief Inspector Craig West from the Roads Policing Unit.
In June alone, 111 drunk driving arrests and 63 drug driving arrests were made. These offences, alongside not wearing seatbelts, speeding, and using phones at the wheel, are top causes of deadly crashes.
Fatal Risks of Drinking and Driving
Drinking behind the wheel doesn’t just endanger the driver. Passengers, pedestrians, and other road users also pay the price. The damage caused is tragic and entirely preventable.

“You might think you’re fine to drive, but even a little alcohol impairs judgment. One mistake can ruin lives,” adds Chief Inspector West. “We’ll keep cracking down, but everyone must play their part to keep Kent’s roads safe.”
Plan Ahead or Pay the Price
- Book a taxi or arrange a designated driver if you’re drinking.
- Remember, alcohol stays in your system—don’t gamble on driving the next morning.
- There is no safe amount of alcohol if you’re behind the wheel.
- Drunk drivers face up to six months in prison, unlimited fines, and hefty bans.
- Causing injury or death while under the influence can land you 14 years in jail.
Don’t risk it. Stay off the road if you’ve been drinking. Lives depend on it.
