Kent Police Chief Scoops Queen’s Police Medal in Birthday Honours

A top Kent Police officer has bagged the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal for his outstanding service. Chief Superintendent John McDermott, North Kent’s Divisional Commander, has been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his stellar police career.

Decades of Dangerous Detective Work

Joining Kent Police in 1988, McDermott has tackled some of the toughest cases around. From anti-corruption and serious organised crime to covert ops and counter-terrorism, he’s seen it all. His work has shattered organised crime gangs and exposed crooked cops.

National Influence and Global Respect

McDermott hasn’t just cleaned up locally – he’s helped shape policing policy nationwide. Even internationally, his efforts have earned recognition. Back in 1998, as a Detective Sergeant, he received a UN medal for probing the Bosnian war massacre of civilians.

Chief Constable Hails ‘Exceptional’ Officer

“I am absolutely delighted for Chief Superintendent McDermott. He is an exceptional police officer with an incredible record of bringing people, who thought they were above the law, to justice,” said Chief Constable Alan Pughsley QPM.

“He has worked at the very top of his profession for over 30 years, leading hundreds of successful prosecutions against dangerous offenders, crime gangs, and corrupt officers. His forensic focus has saved countless vulnerable people from exploitation and cleansed the force of bad apples.”

“He is a role model and a man who always does the right thing. It’s been an honour serving with him.”
