Maidstone Police Crack Down on Crime with Knife Bar and Drug Dogs
The Maidstone Town Centre Task Force teamed up with Kent Police’s Tactical Operations Department for a no-nonsense anti-crime blitz on the evening of Friday, 28 October 2022. Their goal? To keep Maidstone safe and make the town centre a no-go zone for thugs and dealers.
Knife Bar Patrols and Drug Dogs Hit the Streets
Officers hit high-risk spots including Week Street, Earl Street, and the High Street, using a knife bar to scour the area. They even searched Brenchley Gardens for discarded weapons — thankfully, none were found. Night-time venues and CCTV teams joined forces to shut down troublemakers trying to exploit the nightlife.
Vulnerable locals were also checked on during the operation, ensuring help was on hand where needed.
Big Drug Busts and Street Crime Stop
The night saw two men arrested for drug supply after a foot chase along the River Medway towpath. Police seized a stash of Class A drugs and cash. Elsewhere, more than 1,000 cannabis plants were uncovered in a rented Bank Street property, along with growing equipment. Investigations are ongoing to catch those behind the illegal operation.
Traffic cops stopped several cars, handing out a report for uninsured driving. A man in Earl Street was also detained after being flagged as wanted for failing to appear in court.
Maidstone’s Top Cop Vows Continued Action
‘Residents and visitors to the town centre can expect to see an enhanced police presence during the weekends throughout November and into December. We are determined to tackle those intent on violent or disorderly behaviour and will be targeting those who travel to the county town to commit crime. Please also remember that we depend on the public for assistance. You can be our eyes and ears, so if you see anything suspicious call 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress.’ – Chief Inspector Mark McLellan
