Burglar Caught by Bloody Blunder Jailed for Over Two Years
A bungling thief who smashed through a bedroom window and left behind a telltale blood stain has been locked up for 27 months. Daniel Locke, 29, from Margate, was sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court on Tuesday, 16 April 2019, after admitting to a December 2017 burglary in Kingsdown.
Window Smash Leads to Arrest
Neighbours raised the alarm after spotting the smashed bedroom window. Locke, who had ransacked every room in the property on Victoria Road, swiped silver ornaments and stuffed them into two pillowcases before fleeing.
DNA Evidence Cracks the Case
Police arrested Locke on 26 January after his DNA matched blood found on a bedroom drawer. Charges for burglary quickly followed.
“Burglary can have such a detrimental impact on people’s lives,” said Detective Constable Andrew Dale. “Not only did Locke violate the victim’s privacy, he caused significant damage to their property and stole items of sentimental value. I hope his sentence sends a message to other criminals and acts as a deterrent.”
