Historic Orchard Brought Back to Life at Russell Gardens

Russell Gardens is blooming again as an historic orchard is being restored in the latest phase of the Lottery-funded revival of Thomas Mawson’s c.1900 Kearsney Court gardens design.

Sixty-Three Fruit Trees Planted

Dover District Council’s Parks & Open Spaces team has planted 63 fruit trees, including apples, pears, and cherries. Espalier-trained fruit trees have also been lined up neatly along the walled kitchen garden, bringing a classic touch to the site.

Community Spirit at the Heart of the Orchard

The restored orchard isn’t just about history. It’s set to become a hub for locals to learn about fruit tree varieties and get hands-on. Volunteers will help care for the orchard, ensuring it thrives for years to come.
