Massive Portsmouth Drugs Raid: Seven Arrested in Major Takedown
Police launched a major drugs operation in Southsea tonight, nabbing seven suspects in a crackdown on drug dealing and violence. The raids come as part of Operation Fortress, aimed at cleaning up Portsmouth’s streets.
Five Arrested in Elm Grove Warrants
Officers executed two warrants in Elm Grove, Southsea on March 24, arresting five local men aged 19 to 26. All were from Portsmouth and have since been released on bail.
Two More Nabbed in Crabbe Court Sting
Following high-visibility patrols, police arrested two 17-year-old males from London in Crabbe Court, Southsea. Both remain in custody facing charges connected to drug supply.
Police Promise to Crack Down Hard on Drug Crime
“Today’s warrants and activity are part of our ongoing campaign to tackle drug dealing and keep vulnerable people safe,” said Inspector Phil Lamb.
Chief Inspector Jim Pegler added: “Drug dealing often brings violence and anti-social behaviour. We’re working hard to make Portsmouth a no-go zone for dealers.”
How You Can Spot Drug Activity
Operation Fortress focuses on cutting drug supply, especially Class A substances. Police urge locals to be vigilant and report suspicious behaviour such as:
- Quick visits to houses or flats with people staying only briefly
- Short handovers between small groups near properties
- Frequent comings and goings from the same address throughout the day
- Loitering individuals using mobile phones often
- Unfamiliar or hired cars parked outside driven by unlikely drivers
If you spot anything odd, call 101 or dial 999 if it’s an emergency. You can also email [email protected] or anonymously report tips to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police are determined to keep Portsmouth streets safer by smashing drug networks and cutting drug-related violence. Stay alert – and help them catch the crooks.
