Local Man Arrested Over Cat Deaths in Brighton
Sussex Police have nabbed a 52-year-old man following a breakthrough in the mystery of multiple cat deaths in Brighton. The shocking case escalated after a cat was found seriously wounded near Trafalgar Street on the evening of June 1. Sadly, the feline later died from its injuries.
CCTV Leads To Arrest, But Investigation Continues
Officers quickly secured CCTV footage from the area, which led to the arrest on June 2. The suspect faces charges of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He has since been released on bail until June 28, while inquiries carry on.
“We were made aware of a cat death and officers conducted a quick-time investigation to establish the circumstances,” said Detective Investigator Chris Thompson. “The arrested man has been released on police bail while enquiries are continuing.”
Police Hunt Key Witness Who May Hold Vital Clues
Detectives are desperately trying to track down a crucial witness. They describe him as a white male, 5’8”, aged in his 20s or 30s, medium build, with long dark wavy hair and sunglasses. This man may have been seen stroking the cat at around 7:50pm on June 1 — shortly before the attack.
“If this is you, please get in touch,” urged DI Thompson.
