Stunt Pilot Dies in Horror Crash Near Headcorn Aerodrome
Kent was rocked on Sunday afternoon after stunt pilot Angus Buchanan’s light aircraft crashed during a daring display, ending in tragedy. Emergency services rushed to a field near Headcorn Aerodrome, but sadly, the experienced pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crash Details: Stunt Goes Fatally Wrong
Angus, known locally as a skilled flyer, was performing a stunt with three other bi-planes from the Stampe Formation Flying Display team. Witnesses reported the plane executing a “stall turn” before it lost control and smashed behind trees near the aerodrome.
Two fire engines, along with Kent Police, SECAMB, Kent Air Ambulance, and onsite Fire & Rescue Response crews scrambled to the scene. They worked quickly to secure the area, but despite their efforts, Angus did not survive.
Remembering Angus Buchanan: A Life Dedicated to the Skies
Angus Buchanan’s passion for flying spanned decades. He became a commercial pilot in 1970 and flew for EasyJet until retiring in 2009. A stalwart of the flying community, his death has left many devastated.
“Angus’ death is a great loss to the flying community,” said a shaken air traffic controller at Headcorn Aerodrome.
Official Response and Investigation Underway
Kent Police confirmed they are investigating the crash, working closely with the East Coast Ambulance Service, Kent Fire & Rescue Service, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch.
A police spokesperson said, “Officers remain at the scene as we work to establish the full circumstances behind the crash.”
