Samurai sword and zombie knife seized in Newark raids
Police swoop on Newark home after tip-off
Officers stormed a house in Newark on Wednesday afternoon following reports of suspicious activity. The targeted raid uncovered a stash of illegal weapons, including a samurai sword and a zombie-style knife.
Illegal blades could land owners in jail
Both weapons are banned under the UK’s Offensive Weapons Act, which has been cracking down on deadly blades since July 2021. The law outlaws owning or selling knuckledusters, throwing stars, disguised knives, push daggers, and friction lock batons too.
Collectors caught hoarding these weapons at home now face serious jail time. The knives are also illegal to carry in public.
Police warn: “No excuse for keeping deadly weapons”
Nottinghamshire Police’s Operation Reacher team carried out the operation. Sergeant Mike Taylor said:
“We’ve removed two dangerous weapons from our community that could’ve caused serious harm. There is absolutely no reason to have these offensive weapons at home—it’s been a criminal offence for over 18 months.”
He added that claiming ignorance won’t fly if offenders are hauled into court.
Still hunting leads—police urge public to come forward
