Armed Standoff Rocks Hove Street
A tense showdown erupted in Hove yesterday afternoon when police tried to serve an arrest warrant on a man believed to be armed.
Man Blocks Door, Sparks Hours-Long Standoff
Sussex Police arrived at a Portland Road address around 2.25pm on Thursday (March 6) to arrest the man following an Exeter Crown Court order. But he refused to open the door and was thought to be carrying a firearm.
A spokesman said: “We continued to negotiate with him throughout the afternoon. A section of the road was closed for public safety.”
Safe Arrest After Hours of Negotiation
After several tense hours, officers managed to arrest the suspect on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear.
He was taken to hospital for a health check before being moved into custody.
Police added: “We thank the public for their patience while we dealt with the ongoing incident.”
Road Reopens After Midnight
By 11.45pm, Sussex Police confirmed the road was fully reopened, ending a dramatic day in Hove.
