Man Arrested Over Mum-of-Five’s Fatal Wigan Crash
A man is in custody suspected of murder after a tragic crash in Wigan killed mum-of-five Joanne Bailey-Collinge, 34. The accident on Bickershaw Lane on Saturday evening also left her teenage daughter seriously injured.
Fatal Collision Involving Three Vehicles
Joanne’s black Volkswagen Polo collided with a silver Mercedes C220 saloon and a Volkswagen Amarok pickup at around 5.45pm. Her 13-year-old daughter suffered severe injuries to her arm, leg, and hip. Joanne’s husband Andy suffered a severe concussion.
Multiple Arrests and Ongoing Investigation
- The Mercedes occupants – a 21-year-old and two men aged 20 – were initially arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
- Police have since ruled out two men from that charge but arrested them for alleged grievous bodily harm. They were released on bail.
- A 20-year-old man remains in custody over causing death by dangerous driving.
- A 42-year-old man from Golborne was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert justice and is also in custody.
- Officers continue to search for passengers from the VW Amarok.

“It’s a fast-paced and complex enquiry,” said Sgt Lee Westhead from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. “We urge anyone with information to come forward. While arrests have been made, the investigation is still in early stages, and we need public support.”
