Police Bust Massive Cannabis Farm Hidden Behind Closed Blinds in Worksop
Neighbours’ Noses Lead Police to Secret Grow Operation
Officers from the Worksop Neighbourhood Policing Team were tipped off by a strong smell of cannabis coming from a property on Sime Street. The house had all its blinds drawn, raising red flags. When police checked the address, they spotted growing equipment and heard unusual noises coming from inside.
Raid Uncovers 169 Cannabis Plants, Electricity Bypass
At around 2.45pm on Tuesday 29 November, cops forced their way in. A man tried to flee but was quickly arrested. Inside, officers uncovered a massive grow spread across five rooms, with 169 cannabis plants at different stages of growth. The electricity had been illegally bypassed — a serious fire hazard for nearby homes.
Man Charged with Cannabis Production
Elmas Sitaj, 33, who has no fixed address, is due to appear at 123 and cracking down on offenders.
“Some think cannabis growing is a victimless crime, but they’re wrong. It destroys lives, impacts communities, and is often tied to organised crime and violence. Illegal electricity use here also poses a huge fire risk, especially for neighbours.
“We’re committed to bringing offenders to justice and keeping harmful drugs off our streets. Public tips are vital, so anyone with info on suspected drug activity is urged to come forward.”
