Man Charged Over Death of 9-Year-Old in Devastating Donegal Hit-and-Run
A 23-year-old man from Co Sligo has been charged following a tragic hit-and-run that killed a young boy in Co Donegal last weekend. Serge Kelly, from Upper Mullaghamore, Cliffony, appeared at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court facing multiple road traffic offences.
Details of the Fatal Crash
The heartbreaking incident happened on Atlantic Way, Bundoran, on Saturday evening. Nine-year-old Ronan Wilson from Kildress, Co Tyrone, was visiting the town when he was struck by a vehicle. The boy sadly died as a result of his injuries.
Police Action and Charges
Detective Garda Shane Maye of Ballyshannon Garda Station confirmed Serge Kelly was arrested and charged at 7.15pm the previous evening. Kelly faces serious charges including:
- Failing to stop at the scene of a crash
- Failing to remain at the scene
- Failing to offer or seek assistance
Kelly was also ordered to surrender his passport and will appear at Ballyshannon District Court on October 20, 2023, as the investigation continues.
